Abstract

Maternal mortality and morbidity in Indonesia is still a big problem. The incidence of
premature rupture of membranes (PROM) ranges from 5-10% of all births. Preterm KPD
occurs in 1% of all pregnancies and 70% of KPD cases occur in term pregnancies and 30% of
KPD cases are the cause of premature birth. Premature rupture of membranes is a condition
in which the amniotic sac ruptures before labor begins. Premature rupture of membranes
(PROM) is one of the most common complications of pregnancy. The incidence of premature
rupture of membranes is 2.7% -17%, depending on the length of the latent phase used to
establish the diagnosis of PROM. Factors that cause premature rupture of membranes
include age, parity, history of previous pregnancy, trauma, and spacing of pregnancies. The
purpose of this study was to determine the factors that cause premature rupture of
membranes (PROM). This research was conducted using a literature review study with the
traditional literature review method.
